Most NIF applications are completed in about 10 business days. Final processing time depends on the Portuguese Tax Authority’s review and approval progress. In some cases—such as government staff vacation periods (e.g., summer) or unforeseen administrative delays—the timeline may extend to 4–6 weeks or longer. FastNIF will do its best to accelerate the process, but cannot guarantee a specific completion date, as the final decision rests with the tax authority.

No. A foreign address is acceptable. When required, we can act as your tax representative.

NISS (Número de Identificação da Segurança Social) is the Portuguese Social Security number, separate from the NIF tax number. You need NISS to: sign an employment contract in Portugal, register as self-employed, set up a Portuguese company, and many residence procedures (D7, D8, work visa, etc.). Many residence permit applications require it.

NIF = tax number (Finanças / Tax Authority). Required for all financial activity: opening a bank account, signing rental contracts, paying taxes, buying property. NISS = social security number (Segurança Social). Required for employment, self-employment, social contributions. Most foreigners need both — usually NIF first, NISS later when they start working or applying for a visa.

You need: (1) Passport, (2) Your existing NIF, (3) Employment contract OR proof of self-employment (start of activity declaration) OR proof of company incorporation, (4) Visa + AIMA appointment proof OR a residence permit, (5) A signed Power of Attorney (we generate and let you sign it electronically), (6) Father's and Mother's full names. Existing FastNIF customers can prefill most fields from their NIF application.

Approximately 1 week from document approval to NISS number delivery. The fee is €200 one-time, which covers document review, power of attorney preparation, submission to Segurança Social, and progress tracking. You don't need to be in Portugal — the entire process is handled remotely.

SNS (Número de Utente do SNS) is the Portuguese National Health Service user number. You need it to register with a family doctor, access primary healthcare, get prescriptions at public-system prices, and many residence-related procedures. You apply at the local health center (Centro de Saúde) once you have a Portuguese address — registration is free, but the paperwork is in Portuguese and rules differ by parish, which is where we help.

They are issued by three separate authorities and are used in different contexts. Most foreigners need NIF first, NISS once they start working, and SNS once they have a Portuguese address.

Existing FastNIF / NISS customers get most fields prefilled.

About 4-5 weeks, counted from the moment your documents are complete and submitted by the lawyer to your local health center. The service fee is €200 one-time and covers document review, the SNS-specific power of attorney, submission to the health center on your behalf, and progress tracking. We currently prioritize Lisbon-area residents — other districts can apply, but please contact us via WhatsApp first to confirm.
